Synopsis: “Lost Spaces” is a documentary VR experience set within the Buffer Zone of the divided city of Nicosia, Cyprus – an area recognized as one of the most endangered heritage sites in Europe. The experience invites the audience into this otherwise inaccessible territory, exploring its abandoned landscapes through the memories and voices of those who once lived and worked there. The journey begins in a traditional coffee place situated along the division line—an everyday yet deeply symbolic space in the old city. From there, audiences cross into the Buffer Zone and encounter three key locations through a combination of 360° imagery, spatial reconstruction, point clouds and archival material that evoke traces of the past. Guided by personal testimonies, “Lost Spaces” unfolds as a layered narrative of absence and memory, where physical space and lived experience intertwine. The work invites reflection and dialogue around a landscape that has remained suspended in time—bringing this “no man’s land” back into collective consciousness.
