Press Release

After seven successful editions in Nafplio, the Nafplio International Film Festival “Bridges” has established itself as a major cultural event, significantly contributing to the city’s cultural identity and international visibility. Admission is free to the public.

This year’s festival poster, designed by animator Alexis Chaviaras, depicts the Arkadiko Bridge, the oldest preserved bridge in Europe and the world, built during the Bronze Age (13th century BC) — a symbol of timeless connection between cultures and eras.

The festival program emphasises Historical, Fantasy, Musical, and Philosophical Cinema, as well as contemporary Greek cinema, showcasing works by emerging filmmakers who will attend the screenings. For technical reasons, all screenings (December 6–7, 2025) and the Kapodistrias Film Awards Ceremony will take place at Fougaro Artcenter.

2025 Highlights:

  • Centenary Tribute to Mikis Theodorakis, including:
    1. Performances by the Youth Choir of the Nafplio Choral Lab, singing Mikis’ songs, and the Children’s Choir of the Municipality of Nafplio, performing selections from Greek cinema, under the direction of Yiannis Nikolopoulos (Dec 7, 17:00).
    2. Screening of the film “Mauthausen” featuring music by Mikis Theodorakis, performed and directed by Aristarchos Papadaniel (voice) and Aris Zervas (cello).
  • Exclusive presentation in Nafplio of the Kapodistrias Film Awards and the category for films/filmmakers of Philhellenes (Dec 7, 17:00).
  • Presentation of new technologies in the audiovisual sector and virtual reality.
  • Screenings for children.
  • Honorary recognition of the distinguished Nafplio sound engineer Stelios Giannakopoulos (b. 1929).

The festival aims to deliver a multidimensional program of screenings and parallel events, featuring over 60 films with humanitarian content, half of which are directed/produced by women, including national and world premieres. Additionally, collaborations will be developed with local educational and cultural institutions, as well as volunteer groups, highlighting the social and cultural character of Nafplio.
