GP “A Land Behind” – Yang Yishu, China, 2024, 122’

Synopsis: As an 89′ youth generation of China, Mr. Tang retreated step by step in the past 30 years , after his failure in youth movement, Mr. Tang returned to a small island formed by the accumulation of the Yangtze River’s drifting sands. There, he runs an organic farm. Years of running this farm, however, have caused him to face hardship and failure. A mother, who lived in seclusion on a mountain, comes down to stay for a few days with her daughter Xiao Yu, who works at the organic farm. Xiao Yu, following in the footsteps of Mr. Tang, takes root in the organic farm. Under her mother’s gaze, she becomes aware of the traumas of her life that she can no longer avoid. At the same time, the farm is undergoing a change in operating methods. A storm changes everyone.
