Synopsis: The Manta community, living mainly in southern Bangladesh’s Bhola, Patuakhali, and Barisal districts, has been forced onto boats after river erosion swallowed their land. They live a nomadic, fishing-based life on small boats, moving frequently with the fish and river conditions. Manta children lack access to education and urban facilities, and the community faces extreme hardships, including vulnerability to storms and exclusion from government services due to their lack of permanent addresses. Despite being citizens, they desire a stable life with access to basic amenities and education for their children. This pictorial feature documents their ongoing struggle and aspirations for a normal life.
